With the Women's Fair coming up I thought I should make some Christmassy themed beads so here's a preview of some I'll have available that day -

I've wanted to make some Goddess beads as well, but can't bring myself to try the torso type so decided to take another track.  There are some beautiful torso's out there, but I don't think I could bring myself to wear a naked body round my neck (it's the prudish side of me coming out I guess!!), so here's what I did instead.  I've got some ideas to progress with these which might be fun to try.  Don't pay too much attention to the trees, they will require YEARS of practise!

And here at last is CL's necklace, I am really pleased with how this project turned out, there are so many colours in it I think it would go with anything.  I took the beads into the local bead store to see how best to string them and got such a positive response from the owner and other lady that works there that I came away on cloud nine.

The glass is unwrapped, sorted and labelled and the fun has begun! I'm experimenting with reactions between the different colours or 'families' of glass. Some pretty cool things can happen if you know what you are doing - and sometimes even if you don't.

Here's the latest!

These use a twisty made of edp and turquoise laid down next to an opal yellow stripe on the bead, the twisty smooshes into the yellow and all kinds of cool colours happen. Then I tried encasing same twisty - a very different looking thing happens.

Bead Soup anyone? There are a couple in here with copper in them, my favourites are the big blue hollow and a surprising reaction I got with the transparent uranium yellow bead (see close up 'Today's Pick' in the right hand column).

Introducing South Sea Mary and Porcinea Ham (don't you think she looks a little pig-like??)

.. note the nifty knew tip for taking photos - regular table salt acts as a great background, it's easy to position beads at the angle you want -- Just make sure they're dry before you plop them in there!!

We are well into March and I've been busy getting my website online. It's done for now, more pictures to add and I'm sure I'll be reworking it as I go - www.fireseed.ca

Earlier in the month I attended a symposium for artists/craftspersons wanting to sell their wares. It was fun, I made a couple of contacts and learned some new things too.

When I went to pick up my last batch of annealed beads, the store owner told me I had some pretty neat stuff and that if I could make them a bit bigger he'd be willing to have some in his store on consignment. That was quite exciting as he's a glassblower and has been in business for quite a long time I believe. So.... my goal is BIGGER beads!

What I really need is for the weather to warm up, I find often the wind is in the wrong direction and blowing right in the window I'm trying to exhaust fumes out of, let me tell you it just doesn't work! The heat is lost too quickly and I have a job to get the glass melting consistantly. I am in envy of folks with decent places to torch, mixed fuel torches and kilns - yep that's it, I just want it all!!

What's new for beads? I've been trying some hollows and had a really good day when by some fluke of the stars I managed to make a bead inside a bead. That has become my proudest accomplishment, especially as I haven't achieved another since.

I've also been doing more faces, dots and cats. I get a lot of comments about the faces, I think because they are colourful and a bit different. They are fun to do too, and I want to make these bigger also.

My bead inside a bead!!
